Color Trends for 2020
Color has the power to influence how you feel and can easily transform a room, whether you paint an entire room or use it as an accent. Each year, industry leaders announce the color forecast which influences the designs we see on the runway and in the home. As an Interior Designer, I get to see the home trends first hand at trade shows, High Point Market, and other industry events.
The color trends for 2020 will transition from stark white and over-saturated hues to warm neutrals and moody hues. Here are some of the color trends for 2020 that will dominate in the home and fashion industry this coming year.
COLOR TRENDS FOR 2020
Warm Neutrals - While 2019 was filled with many white rooms and kitchens, we will see more warm neutrals making a strong comeback in 2020. Shades of cream, champagne, taupe, and mushroom will be popular. Neutral colors may be understated but allow for furnishings, artwork, architectural details, to be the focal point.
Earth Tones - Cool tones have ruled for so many years. Instead of seeing shades of gray, we will see more rich earth tones. Colors inspired by nature such as chocolate brown, olive green, clay, and yellow ochre will dominate in the home.
Bold Monochromatic’s: This is the rebellion to the “all white” trend we saw in 2019. Monochromatic rooms don’t have to be neutral or boring. When done right, bold monochromatic rooms can make a powerful statement and elicit sophistication. A personal favorite of mine is monochromatic rooms in cobalt blue or aubergine.
Moody Hues - Moody hued rooms never went out of style in my opinion. Deep and moody hues such as wine, teal, midnight blue, and charcoal will be popular. These hues are great for intimate entertaining settings such as dining rooms, sitting rooms (where you may have your after dinner drink), or in a home library.
One of my favorites is a dusty teal color which brings depth to a room while still remaining neutral. This blue-green hue pairs well with natural white oak woods, copper metals, and other neutral shades such as bone, camel, or clay.
Jewel Tones - While saturated hues were popular in 2019, we will see bold color in the form of jewel tones this year. Colors such as Emerald, Sapphire Blue, amethyst, citrine yellow, and ruby red will be trending. These shades evoke opulence and are powerful as an accent or the focal color to any room.
The color trends for 2020 excite me to design with these color palettes in mind. I hope that this post has inspired you to take more risks when it comes to adding color into your home.
