As a Design Psychology and Feng Shui expert, your home can reveal clues about your life. For example, your closets reveal information about your subconscious as it is hidden clutter. If your closet is filled to the brim and disorganized, there may be emotional trauma that you are keeping hidden or are not willing to reveal.

Our environments play a huge role in how we feel, whether we are conscious of it or not. You can't live a happy life when operating from a negative space — headspace and living space.

Home nourishes the soul. When the place you retreat to doesn't offer a sense of security, fulfillment, relaxation, or happiness -- there is an imbalance which trickles into your every day life.

So how do you infuse positivity into your home?

There is ONE thing you can do on your own to start making home your happy place right now.

The best way to create a happy home is by conquering one room at a time. Start with the room that gives you the most trouble or evokes negative emotions. This could be an entire room or a specific area, like a closet.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT OF THE DAY:

  • Go around the room and assign an emotion to each item

  • If the item makes you happy, keep it. If it brings up negative emotions, remove it from the space by donating or discarding.

  • If you have an item that is neutral:

    • Does this lift my energy when I look or think about it?

    • Does it inspire me?

    • Do I have enough of this item?

    • It is useful? or Will I use it again?

    • What is my association with it?

By keeping only the items that make you feel good, it automatically shifts the energy of your room. Of course, there are more techniques to clear negative vibes in your home but this is a great place to start and something you can easily do on your own.

We collect things different ways: purchased on our own, gifted by others, or inherited from family. For purchased items, we may have really loved at one point but may have outgrown the style over the years. For gifted or inherited items, tend to create the most conflict. If it is a gift (that we don't really love), we feel obligated to hold onto that item or maybe it was from someone from our past. Subconsciously, that item is weighing us down. It is important to surround yourself with the items that truly evoke happiness in you.

I encourage you to try this exercise on your own. When finished, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
