When new homeowners called on me for help with their modern master bathroom, I saw the potential beyond the outdated interior and cracked ceramic tiles. The young couple had style and their current bathroom didn't reflect their minimalist modern inspiration photos. Through the process of my edesign services, I came up with a proposed design concept for the space. I was inspired by the client's bright and crisp design inspiration photos plus the natural lighting that they already had beaming into the bathroom. One of the items on the client's "wish list" was a rainfall shower head. With a shower head that emulates rain fall, it was only natural to me to design a bathroom with organic and earthy elements. Not only was the new space going to be modern but inspired by nature as well. I combined warm wood-plank flooring with pebble mosaic tile in the shower stall as well as around the bathtub.
The bathtub is the focal point of the new modern master bathroom. Upon entering her original space, you saw a built-in bathtub with two stairs and tiled white ceramic around the tub and along the stairs. The tub of the tub meets the bottom of the window sill which makes the room feel shorter. To update the bathroom, I proposed removing the stairs around the tub and putting a freestanding modern bathtub instead with pebble mosaic tile going around the tub (like the design rendering featured below). On the window, I proposed woven grass shades for light filtering privacy as well as adding a layer of white curtains to elongate the height and frame the bathtub.
As you can see below, this is the floor plan of the proposed design. I kept the locations of both the existing vanities but I am replacing them with white modern cabinets with a white marble stone on top and new contemporary faucets. The bathtub is floating in the corner on an angle with the pebble mosaic tile going around the base of the tub.
When this modern master bathroom is complete, it is going to have a completely different feel. The couple can now retreat to their bathroom and feel like they are visiting a modern oasis. To follow along this project, please follow AMA Designs on Facebook and Instagram for progress photos.
